When Blizzard confirmed some time ago that they were not only working on one, but maybe even several mobile games with the Warcraft IP, the enthusiasm about it was rather lukewarm. The shock of a certain Diablo Immortal was still too deep.

In addition, mobile games didn't necessarily have the best reputation back then. Boring gameplay, cheap graphics and really only meant to pull money out of the players' pockets as quickly as possible. This rejection by the community could also have been a reason why Blizzard didn't bring up the topic on its own in the time to come.

Why isn't anything heard?

However, the development was not stopped, as was confirmed in some places when asked. But then why haven't we heard anything new about the WoW mobile game for what feels like an eternity?

One possibility is certainly that the development is progressing quite slowly. That wouldn't be unusual, as Blizzard also has to deal with this problem with other IPs and games, as the postponement of Overwatch and Diablo 4 shows. But one may also cause a postponement of the other. Maybe they had to put the mobile game on hold because it's thematically based on something that hasn't even appeared in the world of WoW (buy now €14.99 ) yet - due to the delay in development.

But it's just as possible that Blizzard would rather not come around the corner with an unpopular product at the current time, when the company is in the crosshairs of the community like rarely before. Maybe they've learned from the Immortal disaster at BlizzCon and don't want to say anything until they can present something else that will appeal to typical PC gamers.

I'm still looking forward to a WoW mobile game!

Although most PC gamers are rather skeptical, not to say hostile, towards mobile games, I would still be happy about an announcement soon. It has to be said that I agree with the arguments mentioned above regarding the quality and direction of mobile games. However, times are changing.

Mobile games today are far from what they were a few years ago. Sure, there are still tons of such games that aren't worth the storage medium they were programmed on. But there are now also dozens of examples of very successful and well thought-out mobile games or mobile implementations of games that prove that things can be done differently.

You don't even have to go far away from Blizzard, as they showed how well something like this can work with the mobile Hearthstone version. However, this was only an implementation. But would the game have been worse if it hadn't been released for the PC before? And the first impressions of Diablo Immortal also show, even if many don't want to admit it, that we are in for a very good game. Therefore, I am very confident that a WoW mobile game will be of high quality and not a cheap 08/15 mobile game.

Addition, not replacement

And even if it's only semi-good, you have to remember that it's not meant to replace WoW or take anything away from the world of Azeroth in any way. It's different development teams and therefore different resources. Rather, an additional offer awaits us, which we can accept or ignore. A WoW mobile game will not be a WoW on the cell phone, as seen here, but rather an addition to the actual game. Source: buffed Moreover, this opens up completely new possibilities. In the past, several games have tried to cleverly combine mobile and the actual game. However, the success was rather manageable. But what has made Blizzard a name for itself over the past two decades? Right, stealing a good idea that was often poorly implemented, polishing it up and implementing it well. Why shouldn't they go back to that principle and do it again?

In which direction could Blizzard go?

Of course, I could just tell you what I would like to see in a mobile game. And that's exactly what I'm doing, because Blizzard throws us almost no breadcrumbs or hints about the direction of such a game. The only one was in an interview a while ago, when the developers said that they were all big fans of Pokémon Go and that this would of course influence their work to a certain extent.

Therefore, the first and most logical thing would of course be a kind of WoW Pet Battle Go. We run around in the world, collect cool and cute WoW pets and let them fight against other monsters or opponents. Thanks to the Pet Battle system in WoW, this would already be a great foundation on which to build. In addition, the actual game and the mobile game would be well connected without taking anything important away from the mobile refuseniks.

If Niantic's technology is too expensive or too elaborate, they could also detach it from the augmented reality factor and make a pet battle app that may be boring, but is still certainly quite respectable. Why sit at the PC and fight pet battles against other players when you could do it on the train or sitting on the toilet. I'm pretty sure such an app would greatly revitalize pet battle in WoW.

Besides that, there are tons of other options. From hero collectibles to a collection of Darkmoon Faire-style mini-games. Could all work well in my eyes. One thing is for sure: As long as the mobile game doesn't become a boring copy of the former AH app, which was certainly useful but isn't a game, I'll definitely take a look and probably won't throw it off my phone right away.

How about you guys? Have you forgotten all about the WoW mobile game and are pissed that I reminded you? Or do you also secretly believe that it could be good, but don't dare to say it out loud because of the prevailing opinion about it?
