With patch 9.0 of WoW Battle for Azeroth, N'Zoth is defeated and his corruption is cleansed from Azeroth. This was confirmed by WoW's Game Director Ion Hazzikostas in an interview with PandaTV. With that, the pre-patch will also remove all corruption effects from characters.

This makes sense, of course, because entering the Shadowlands with 100 percent critical hit value and other absurd stats and procs would be a bit strange. Interestingly, the game director admitted that the game is simply "broken" at the moment due to the corruption effects. The developers are aware of this, but since spoilage effects are only active for a relatively short period of time in the expansion, they won't be changing anything.

But don't worry, the game will be balanced with patch 9.0 so that you can defeat N'Zoth just as fast as before, even without broken corruption effects. Essences and Azerite item bonuses will still be active, by the way, but will be disabled when entering the Shadowlands. In the Shadowlands, the connection to your Heart of Azeroth is disabled, but when you come back to Azeroth, all Azerite bonuses and Essences will work again. So unlike the artifact weapons in Legion, you're not removing this feature from the game completely.

When exactly Shadowlands will be released, we don't know yet. At the Shadowlands Summit, it was confirmed that the expansion should be released this fall - that is, between September 22 and December 21, 2020. The pre-patch usually arrives on the live servers four to six weeks before the release of the addon.

For players who are still unsure when what will be removed and how things work from patch 9.0 and in Shadowlands, according to Ion Hazzikostas, Blizzard will publish the appropriate blog post in a timely manner.
