With the next content patch 8.3 "Visions of N'Zoth" for the current expansion World of Warcraft Battle for Azeroth, the two playable allied races Mechagnome and Vulpera are available for the first time. In this special, we introduce you to the Mechagnomes.

"Though they once sought to fully mechanize themselves, the Mechagnomes now seek a balance between flesh and steel. After years of isolation on Mechagon, they bring ingenuity and talent to the Alliance. They left Gnomeregan to build a metal metropolis, Mechagon. Their once wise and ambitious ruler, King Mechagon, now ruthlessly rules them with an iron fist. Work with the Rustbolt Resistance to overthrow their tyrant so these mechanical misfits will join the Alliance."

Update from January 12, 2020: Mechagnomes are indeed the only Allied race that cannot transmogrify at will. We've added detailed information about this to the post - the relevant areas are color-coded. (via WoWHead)

Available classes

Hunter, Mage, Monk, Priest, Rogue, Warlock and Warrior.

People skills

  • Rearm: Automatically heals you when your health drops to a low level.
  • Combat Analysis: Become stronger when fighting the same enemy.
  • Hyper Organic Light Originator: Summons dummies of yourself to distract enemies.
  • Skeleton Pinkie: Opens locked chests.
  • Master Craft: Functions as a personal crafting tool for all professions.

Note: Folk abilities, effects, and icons are subject to change.

Unlock Requirements

If you wish to play the allied Mechagnome race, you must meet the following requirements:

  • An awesome reputation with the Rustbolt Resistance faction.
  • Completion of the Mechagonian Menace quest achievement.

When the next content update is released, players who have met the above requirements will gain access to a quest series to recruit the Mechagnomes as allies. Once you complete the series, you will receive the Allied Peoples: Mechagnome achievement and will be able to create a new Mechagnome in the character selector. During character creation, you will also unlock a new mount for your collection, the Mechagon Robo Rider, which all Alliance characters can ride.

Intro Cutscene

As Icy-Veins recently reported, the intro cutscene is now available. The dubbing in this case is done by Scott Menville, who also voiced Prince Erazmin from Mechagon and the male Vulpera. The transcript of the dialogue reads as follows:

We mechagnomes spent years in isolation, tirelessly enhancing our bodies and minds. But this relentless quest for perfection nearly brought us to ruin. Now we realize that balance is the key to happiness. We can improve ourselves without losing our individuality in the process. It is time to leave Mechagon and rejoin our gnomish cousins. Together, we will forge a brighter future. For the Alliance!

Tradition Armor

If you bring a new Mechagnom to level 110 without the aid of a character upgrade, race change, or faction change, you will also earn the distinctive Tradition Armor set as well as the Mechagnome Tradition Armor achievement (see the image above). The set therefore consists of the following items:

  • Mechagnome Heritage Buckle
  • Mechagnome Heritage Chestpiece
  • Mechagnome Heritage Cloak
  • Mechagnome Heritage Girdle
  • Mechagnome Heritage Helmet
  • Mechagnome Heritage Shoulderguards

Transmog limitation of mechagnomes

Mechagnomes are characterized - as already mentioned and shown - by their mechanical limbs. These can, of course, be customized - however, it is not possible to provide these body regions with individual armor adjustments. In short, mechagnomes are actually the only playable race in World of Warcraft that is subject to such a limitation.

Mechagnomes can therefore transmogrify the following body parts:

  • Helmet
  • Shoulders
  • Chest
  • Cloak
  • Belt
  • Legs

This means that the following regions cannot be transmogrified:

  • Feet
  • bracers
  • Gloves

Alternatively, you can choose from certain modifications at these slots that are Mechagnom-specific. These modifications look like this, for example:
