No question: There are quite a few WoW Classic enthusiasts who invest so much time in gold farming that they were able to earn high five-digit gold sums in the first weeks with Burning Crusade Classic alone. You could even look over the shoulders of various streamers and Youtubers.

Already in WoW (buy now 14,99 € ) Classic items went for such absurd sums over the gold DKP or auction house table that you have to ask yourself rightly whether really all rich Classic players have put so much work into their pile of gold. Just take the Naxxramas sword Gressil, which sold for 198,000 gold pieces in December 2020.

There must have been some real money gold buying involved, right?

A post on Reddit indicates how widespread the problem with real-money gold purchases could be. There, the user L0adManager writes that five guild members were banned for buying gold with real money. Noteworthy:

  • The banned players had been getting away with it for far too long, since phase 2 of WoW Classic they are said to have regularly bought gold for money.
  • More than 90 percent of the players from the affected guild are said to have bought gold for money. Those who haven't been caught yet are"wetting their pants with fear right now".

As with the cases in June

, however, Blizzard holds back this time with long bans. For three days, the gold buyers are not allowed to log into WoW. In addition, the developers remove the purchased gold as well as the items purchased with the gold (although it is unclear how far back Blizzard tracks the gold purchases, actually to Classic Phase 2?!).

The Reddit user has a clear opinion on the banning penalties, "F....you, gold buyers and thank you Blizzard!

".

What do you guys think about the issue? Should Blizzard be tougher? And are there any players in your guild who have bought gold for money but have never been punished for it? Let us know in the comments.
